Kozień Adam, The administrative and legal characteristics of higher music schools in Poland

Music has been present among people since the very beginning of the history of mankind on Earth. However, to ensure high level and further development of music it became necessary to establish institutionalized forms of musical education, what autonomicly higher music schools have become with time. A problematic issue remains whether higher music schools conduct academic activity or only artistic one, therefore whether it is possible to qualify higher music schools into academic education or only into vocational education. One must emphasize that musical education itself is not uniform because it contains both theoretical elements, i.e. stricte academic ones, which anyway serve also the artistic performance, as well as elements which are strictevocational ones, i.e. education of future musicians.
