Technical standards drafted with the participation of the European Banking Authority - legal characteristics of the selected general issues

1.Introduction

The European Banking Authority (hereinafter referred to as „EBA” or the „Authority”) is an organisation and, at the same time, an EU body, which, together with other organisations, forms the European System of Financial Supervision (hereinafter referred to as „ESFS”). ESFS was established mainly to remedy shortcomings in financial supervision, revealed during the financial crisis last decade. Thus, the fundamental goal of ESF Sand of the Authority is to neutralise the risk of similar crises in the future and to limit their potential effects. One of the means to achieve that goal will be the development of a consolidated set of European regulations applicable to all financial institutions on the internal market.
