EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

EIOPA Costs and Past Performance Report provides an overview of the (past) performance and costs of EU retail investment products within EIOPA’s remit. The coverage period goes from 2017 to year end 2021 for past performance and 2021 for costs.

Past performance has been positively influenced by the post-COVID recovery which led to markets achieving high results in 2021. Performance results have been affected by the initial market turbulence at the on-set of the COVID-19 crisis, the significant market recovery of end 2020 and early 2021 followed by the on-set of the inflationary pressures, market turbulence and more conservative growth outlooks, which emerged at the end of 2021. This is expected to continue throughout 2022.
